A chef's table on the Arlberg: one table, eight chairs

At the Mondschein's chef's table on the Arlberg, no more than eight guests sit down, all at the same old oak table. Next to it, a window runs from floor to ceiling. Behind the glass is the kitchen.

If you stay four nights in Stuben, most of your dinners will be half board or in the Alte Gaststube. The Chef's Table is the one evening you fix in advance. The time is set, the menu is set, and so is the number of seats.

For fine dining on the Arlberg you do not have to drive from Stuben to Lech or St. Anton. The table is in the same building as your room, in a house that has taken in travellers since 1739.

The Chef's Table, laid for eight guests

How the evening runs: 7 pm in the cellar, 7.30 pm at the table

At 7 pm you go down to the vaulted cellar from the 17th century. The candles are lit and an aperitif is waiting, with the first snacks from the kitchen.

At 7.30 pm you take your seat upstairs. Through the window you watch each plate being made, from the first course to dessert.

Everyone at the table gets the same menu. There is no à la carte that evening.

Coming straight from the sauna is easy. It closes at 6.30 pm, half an hour before the aperitif.

One set menu from the house kitchen

The style is alpine, the level is fine dining. The menu has eight courses and changes.

The head chef is Moritz Leingartner. His brigade at the stove is the same one that cooks half board and the menu of the Alte Gaststube. After two evenings of Chef's Choice you already know this kitchen. At the Chef's Table it cooks for eight guests, and you watch it work.

A word of advice first. If you want to choose between dishes at dinner, book the Alte Gaststube instead. At the Chef's Table the kitchen decides.

What the evening costs, with and without half board

The set menu costs €235 per person. If you are staying with half board, you pay a supplement of €195 per person. That evening the Chef's Table replaces your half board dinner.

For a couple on half board that comes to €390, without half board €470. The aperitif in the wine cellar is included. The wine pairing costs €145 per person and is added if you choose it, as is the alcohol-free pairing. The evening is paid in advance.

In the Falstaff Restaurant Guide 2026 the Chef's Table received 95 points, and Gault&Millau 2026 awarded it four toques.

Wine from the cellar below the house

With the menu you can have a wine pairing for €145 per person or an alcohol-free pairing. Both are optional, and you are free to dine without either.

The wines come from the wine cellar where the evening starts at 7 pm. It holds Austrian and international wines. Two of them carry the name of the house: the white Ried Superin 2023 from Tegernseerhof and the red Mondschein Selektion 2016 from Prieler.

The wine aperitif at 5.30, 6 or 6.30 pm is something you book for other evenings. On a Chef's Table night, the visit to the cellar is already part of the evening.

Which evening? Plan your trip around the table

In winter the Chef's Table runs from Friday to Monday. So look at the calendar first, and only then at the rooms.

Stay from Sunday to Thursday and you have two possible evenings, Sunday and Monday. Stay from Thursday to Monday and you have three: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Our advice is to reserve your seat together with your room, not at reception once you arrive. There are eight chairs per evening. Cancelling is free as long as the evening is more than five days away.

Swap one evening of half board

With half board you have Chef's Choice in the evening: four courses, between 6.30 and 8.30 pm in the Panorama Restaurant or the Zirbenstube. You can move one of those evenings to the Chef's Table for a supplement of €195 per person.

For four nights we suggest swapping two evenings: one for fondue in the Bilderzimmer, one at the Chef's Table. All the other restaurants in the house are on Restaurants and bar.

Questions about the Chef's Table

How much does the Chef's Table cost?

€235 per person for the set menu. With half board you pay a €195 supplement per person, because that evening replaces your half board dinner. The aperitif in the wine cellar is included. The wine pairing costs €145 per person and, like the alcohol-free pairing, is added if you wish. The evening is paid in advance.

On which days and at what time is the Chef's Table?

In winter, from Friday to Monday. The evening starts at 7 pm with an aperitif in the 17th-century wine cellar, and at 7.30 pm you sit down at the table. There are no more than eight guests per evening. Outside the winter there is no Chef's Table for now.

How do I reserve a seat?

Through reception, staffed every day from 7.30 am to 10 pm: +43 5582 511 or hotel@mondschein.com. If you are staying at the hotel, it is best to book before you arrive. Mention any allergies or intolerances at the same time.

Can I cancel free of charge?

Yes, if you cancel more than five days before the evening. If you cancel later, the full price is charged. A seat you reserve together with your room can therefore be cancelled free of charge until shortly before your trip.

Can I dine at the Chef's Table without staying at the Mondschein?

Yes. Guests staying elsewhere on the Arlberg are welcome too. They reserve in advance through reception and pay €235 per person, also in advance. The evening runs the same way, starting at 7 pm in the wine cellar.

Will we share the table with other guests?

Yes. There is one table with eight seats, and everyone dining that evening sits at it. As a couple you share the evening with up to six other guests.

Can the Chef's Table cater for allergies?

Not for every allergy. Tell us about allergies and intolerances as early as possible, ideally before you arrive. The menu changes, so not every allergy can be accommodated, and we cannot guarantee an allergen-free kitchen.

Can I have one evening at the Chef's Table on half board?

Yes. You swap one evening of Chef's Choice for the Chef's Table and pay a €195 supplement per person. Reserve your seat in advance, through reception or together with your room booking.
