Wellness on the Arlberg: three saunas on the first floor
The Mondschein has stood in Stuben since 1739. Today it is a ski hotel with sauna on the Arlberg, three to four minutes' walk from the Albona I gondola. The sauna area is on the first floor, below the guest rooms.
Two of the three saunas are built in Swiss pine. The Finnish sauna gives strong heat, the bio sauna a milder warmth. There are also infrared seats with Kneipp basins for your feet, two relaxation rooms and a sauna balcony with a view of the mountains.
It is open every day from 3 pm to 6.30 pm. Bathrobes, slippers and sauna towels are ready for you, so you do not need your own towels. At the small fruit and tea bar you help yourself. Food and alcohol stay outside.
You share the sauna area with the guests of the Ski Hotel and with guests of the Arlberg Motel, who use it for a supplement. Day visitors from outside are not admitted.

After the last run: how the afternoon goes
You ski back down into the village. Your skis go into the ski room under the terrace, your boots into your locker with a boot warmer. It opens with your room key card. The lift stops on every guest floor, including the first floor with the sauna area.
Our suggestion for heavy legs: the Finnish sauna first, then out onto the balcony into the winter air. After that the infrared seats, with your feet in the Kneipp basin. In the relaxation room you have a tea from the bar. If you want another round, go back in, this time to the bio sauna.
The sauna closes at 6.30 pm. If you want a sauna at nine in the evening, the Ski Hotel is not the place for it. We think the afternoon is the right time. Come off the slopes at 4 pm and you have two and a half hours until dinner, and those belong to the sauna.
Which runs bring you back to Stuben in the afternoon is explained on our page about skiing on the Arlberg.
Massages at the Ski Hotel: six treatments
Massages take place at the Ski Hotel, every day except Saturday from 2 pm to 7 pm. The last treatment starts at 6 pm. There are six treatments and no packages. Five last 45 minutes and cost €120 each, the Filipino Hilot Massage lasts 90 minutes and costs €195.
The Sports Massage is made for a day on the mountain, with firm pressure and kneading. The Foot Reflexology Massage starts with a foot bath. Choose it when your feet have spent all day in ski boots. The Filipino Hilot is the signature treatment of the house, with herbs and rhythmic movements.
One guest is treated at a time, so appointments are limited. Email your preferred time to hotel@mondschein.com, ideally right after you book your room. A 5 pm appointment leaves you an hour in the sauna beforehand. Massages are available from age 16, and every treatment is described on our page about massages on the Arlberg.
From the sauna to dinner
The sauna area closes at 6.30 pm, and dinner is served from 6.30 pm. The panorama restaurant and the Zirbenstube are on the first floor, like the sauna. With half board you arrive at your table between 6.30 and 8.30 pm.
The Chef's Choice has four courses: salad buffet, soup, a choice of main courses including vegetarian, and dessert. It changes every day. With half board the sauna area is included too.
If you would rather eat à la carte, go to the Alte Gaststube, where the kitchen serves hot food from 6 pm to 9 pm in the evening. Fondue is served in the Bilderzimmer every evening from 6 pm, by reservation only. All restaurants and times are on our wine and dine page.
Ski Hotel, Chalet or Motel: wellness in each house
At the Ski Hotel you share the sauna area on the first floor. It is open as long as the Ski Hotel is open, in the 2026/27 season from 4 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.
At the Mondschein Chalet, nine of the 15 rooms have a spa of their own: seven a sauna, two an infrared cabin. Two suites also have an outdoor hot tub. You heat your sauna whenever you like, after dinner too. The Chalet is open all year, so in summer that is the only place at the Mondschein with wellness.
Which suite has a sauna, an infrared cabin or a hot tub is on private spa suite on the Arlberg. What a sauna in your room means day to day is in our guide to hotels with a private sauna on the Arlberg.
Guests of the Arlberg Motel go to the Ski Hotel for the sauna and pay a supplement. If you already know when you book that you want a sauna every afternoon, stay at the Ski Hotel or the Chalet.
