"Want to ski with me at Arlberg this winter? I'm excited to be continuing my partnership as an 'Athlete in Residence' with Hotel Mondschein @mondscheinarlberg in beautiful Stuben, Austria. Last winter I had the pleasure of staying at this classic ski hotel and enjoying their incredible hospitality and terrain, and now I'm coming back the week of January 5th and staying through the 18th! The location is ideal for direct access to Albona, one of the best off-piste powder ski areas in the Alps and this area regularly gets some of the deepest snow amounts in Europe. Plus, Stuben offers direct lift access without the crowds to Austria's largest ski area via a brand new lift that allows skiing between Zürs, Lech, Warth, St. Christoph and St. Anton. The ski touring opportunities are endless and if you are inclined, there is heliskiing, which is very rare for the Alps.
Pack your powder skis and touring gear and join me this winter (or next) for a fantastic week of ski touring on the Arlberg!"

Travis Ganong, a name known in the skiing world for daring descents and groundbreaking techniques, and Markus Kegele, a hotelier in the Arlberg region known for his ability to combine alpine tradition with modern luxury.
Their story begins with a conversation between Travis and their mutual skiing friend Moritz, who tells him about the legendary Ski Hotel Mondschein in Stuben am Arlberg. A place known for its spectacular off-piste opportunities and exceptional snow quality. Travis Ganong loves skiing. He was born and raised in North Lake Tahoe on the slopes of Palisades Tahoe. As a member of the U.S. Olympic team, he has pushed himself to the limit since his heyday on the international stage.
As a kid, he chased skiing greats like the late Shane McConkey and pioneered numerous big mountain lines that have never been repeated. His versatile skills as a skier led him to compete at the highest levels, and for the past 18 years he has competed as a member of the U.S. Ski Team, establishing himself as one of the greatest downhill and super-G skiers of all time.
During his time on the U.S. Ski Team, Travis earned two World Cup downhill victories, six World Cup podiums (including a podium finish at the 2023 Kitzbühel Downhill), a silver medal at the World Championships, a 5th place finish at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Downhill, and 55 top-ten finishes in his 207 starts.
During his travels as a ski racer, Travis always had his powder skis with him and between competitions he would explore the mountain ranges he was in. He has been featured in ski films such as Warren Miller and Sweetgrass Productions and has graced the covers of numerous print publications as well as seeing his images appear in the media inside and outside of the sport.
With major skiing adventures in Svalbard, Alaska, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, the Alps and of course his home around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada, Travis has remained true to the sport with his unwavering passion for skiing at the highest level, leading his drive. He currently lives in Lake Tahoe with his fiancée Marie-Michele Gagnon, who also recently retired after a similarly successful career on the Canadian Ski Team.
Travis recently retired from ski racing after achieving his goals in the sport and is excited to return to the simple roots that originally inspired him to ski: the simple act of climbing up mountains to ski back down for the ultimate freedom.
At 35 years old, he is looking forward to the next phase of his skiing career where he will dedicate his time fully to freeskiing, giving back to the sport however he can, and working to preserve our delicate mountain environment for generations to come. Athlete, personality, coach, host, ambassador, and press spokesperson are just a few of the traits Travis enjoys wearing as he skis into the future and continues to seek out and support life-changing experiences while gliding on the snow.
